Joomla has no special requirements. So any Good general webhost which supports PHP/MySQL would be good for joomla as well.

If your resources requirements are very high use Private Server or Virtual Private server, otherwise a Shared hosting plan would be sufficient enough.

Some of the good hosts are - Godaddy, Hostgator, HostMonster etc.

1and1 sucks. I have used them and left the 1and1 account unused. Their customer service is worst.

I used to use Joomla until i got my website designed in html. The host that I use, and trust me i have tried way too many, is Bluehost. They are the fastest, most reliable, consistent and to be completely honest they are the most honest and have one of the best support teams out there. Good Luck with your decision my friend.

anything with cpanel or plesk its the best type of control system for joomla hosting i would say, anything with fantastico though would make it easy to create a joomla site as well it would make it easy to manage the files on the site.

if you where going to buy from 1and1 or godaddy or even hostgator i would suggest using a discount coupon to make it cheaper for you, hostgator have one which gives you a month for free which is pretty good. you could even go to a smaller host with cheaper prices and a more personal support system instead of a huge company with too many customers and long waiting times for support.

good luck and hope you make the right choice ;)

I've already told you my friend, Rochenhost :)
Why would the best joomla host not be rochen if joomla themselves use them to host their website? Also if you want cheaper but also quality, try hostgator. Get the *$&@ away from godaddy hosting though. It breaks joomla sites sometimes ;)

VirtueMart executes a lot of MySQL queries at backend. Select a hosting provider with stable database manager. I recommend Siteground and Liquidweb.

Softaculous is another option or even Installatron. Fantastico is not the only auto installer and in fact Fantastico is typically way out of date and is installing out of date versions of scripts.

Well the joomla site is running on their own servers while you're looking for shared hosting. So it's not an exact comparison at all as the environments are probably different as far as software. Joomla servers there is probably no control panel while you're on a server with one. Along with probably versions of the web servers and things like that.
