"Best" homepage URL, www.company.com or www.company.com/keyword1-keyword2/

I have an opportunity to set up domain names and company name from scratch for a startup that is launching in a few months. Thinking about SEO, I had an idea -- but I don't know if it's a good one.

The startup founders do not want to name their company the same as the main keywords we're initially targeting. They want a real name, one that can remain constant as our SEO scope changes. I was thinking, would it make sense to 301 redirect the site root to a page title with the current main keywords in the URL?

The keywords in question is a 3-word phrase, so I was thinking to let:
    company.com/ redirect to
    company.com/keyword1-keyword2-keyword3/

AFAIK, the 301 redirect right from the site launch should ensure that all users bookmark the keyword'ed URL and that Google indexes this as the main URL. The 3 keyword phrase will remain unchanged for at least 6 months. And after that, it will still be a good landing page for product number one, with following products each having their own new landing page.

This is of course unconventional, most people expect the homepage to be at the root. But since the root still works (albeit with an extra HTTP request due to the redirect) I don't see it breaking any user expectations or usability too hard ... or am I wrong? Do you think this is a good idea -- and why / why not?

    Thank you,
