    Yes, I get some very good SERP from Google. It allows me to experiment with different SEO techniques and get fairly quick feedback. Basically, what I have found lately is that good content that keeps visitors on a site appears to be extremely important. So, I try to keep putting good content about new links that I am discovering.

    Yes. Certain scripts, like WordPress, come with many of these SEO features already built in. In some cases, you have to add some plugins. But I agree, if you do just the important ones then you will probably be OK.

    Yes, Google has progress and evolved quite a bit from the early days. Links as a voting mechanism is almost obsolete though links from authority sites do carry lots of weight.
