I believe that you'd better choose cheap paid hosting provider in order to run your wordpress site fast and efficiently.
Some free web hosts impose advertisements to your web site.

Well Hosterbox is offering a free hosting plan for a limited time, I signed up for it and I upgraded my service from there because I really liked there support and services. I think this is the thread offering a free webhosting plan http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2020965

 

they offer only 2 gb bandwidth. it's nos enough for a wordpress blog that wants to have some readers :/

 

I was running a wordpress blog and I have around 100 views a day ( that was when I was still on the free hosting plan) and I did not even get close to the 2gb of bandwidth. Plus this is premium hosting and not a Free web hosting company I think its just a promotion they are running. I think its great and worth a shot its free anyways!

How much unique visitors your website has daily? If not 5,000+ daily then most shared hosting plan could capable on it. Bluehost is a good option while hostgator is not bad.
