I'm going to start a forum soon and I believe that it's going to gain many members. (It's a relaunch of a forum that died ~year back) I got money for the domain and a big relaunch competition, but I'm not going to buy hosting yet.. So what would be the best place to host my Smf or Phpbb3 -forum at for free?
Hmm... if you are going to launch a forum that's going to get many members... then don't get a free host. Spend at least a few bucks for the hosting - it's really not that expensive. As for the "free forum hosting", then I suggest you google or search these forums for it. SMF is something many people have recommended. PHPBB3 should be pretty ok as well. Drupal.org is something you might want to consider as well.
True. Loskas, you should consider paid hosting for your board. Free hosting is not a good option if you have confidence to get many new comers for your board. Smf is not a good forum portal in term of SEO too. I would suggest vBulletin. Please spend a few hours reading most of the important threads on http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/. This board is specially created for forum admin. Hope this help.
i would also recommend you cheap paid hosting.. 1and1 provides good service.. but if you have decided to use free host only, freehostia is the way to go.. and it supports phpbb3 very well..
Well actually there is another way to do this lol, it is not post for host, but it has it's good sides. I'll explain: the website is fbox.com They provide you with free hosting, but you must register in their forum http://fbox.us/forum/index.php (AND I PRECISE THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO POST ANYTHING TO GET FREE HOSTING). In that forum you can ask for your free hosting plan, and it is totally free, but if you want to get a premium hosting package you can also have it for free by doing some free offers (which take seconds to complete and I'm not joking, just try the forum and you'll see by yourself), and what you can get is free domain names, free premium hosting, free rs premium accounts...... and a lot more. just visit the forum and you'll see. I got already 2 domain names for free (registered for 1 year each). I hope this will help you mate. ps: It would be great if you put mimakram88 as your referrer if you sign up, no strings attached though lol. if you don't mind use this following link, thanks. http://fbox.us/forum/index.php?action=affiliate&memberName=mimakram88
I agree that it makes more sense to get some low cost hosting, $5 a month even if you really want this forum to be sucessful.
i can get you free hosting.. all you do is transther of buy a domain then i will install the SMF for free (i can ge the free hosting in about a week)
If you want free forum hosting try freehostia.com, I have been with them for a year now and they are really good.
When you get hosting from me. I ask you would you like forum installed,,You can have phpbb2 or SMF or phpbb3
I do not know other hosting providers offer you but I am using Godaddy and I have 15 free hosting at the moment. However, some ads will appear at the top of my page if I use this type of hosting. There is another way is instead of buying domain name, I will buy hosting for one month then I will get a domain name for free so I get both domain name and hosting. Then if my website develops, I will upgrade my hosting or buy more. It is safer I think
Anyone here uses zymic.com? My server is going down soon and I've been planning to move my website to their server temporarily.
Well, you can check free10gb.com they are very good hosters, free ofc. But like people said upper, hosting is not so expensive, u can buy 1 really cheap Or pm me, I can give you 1 free web-hosting, 100Mb or 500 Mb, only for you Thanks!
You can find an appropriate package for $4.95 at first, and you could so easily cover this in the first month with your ad revenue. On the other hand, most free hosts won't allow you to place ads, so no matter how big your forum gets, you wouldnt make any profit at all (unless you moved). Also, can I suggest you try out MyBB instead of phpbb3 or SMF, its a GREAT little free forum, very admin freindly, and a little like vB. Hope that helps
I would have to agree that paid hosting would be the best bet for you, start off with a little package and as you gain more traffic and attenion move up to a bigger package. other than that, i can't think of anything. Nick imaginehostingdotnet Imaginehosting the dot com of your dreams!!
