phpLD and i have personal experience of getting on with it for over a year, its easy to use, easy to setup, free and paid version available, plenty of support, can hire coders to mod stuff for it, got lots of mods already available.

I run 4 directories using it, im able to work quickly with it.

You may also want to try phpLynx

There is also a free version and a paid version, most of the common mods which you would have to add by hand into phpld are already part of the phplynx directory script, such as contact, refer, report, rate each and every listing.

    Thanks

It really depends on what you want, try several of them, don't just take the words of a few people on here, they are very limited on their knowledge. Each script has its merits, some are better than others, some certainly have more features than others.

Compare them long and hard and look for hidden costs of any of them, that way if there is one that deserves to be called the best, it will stand out.

That's right, you haven't any level of knowledge so when you say its the best right now you really mean its the best you've tried. ;)

It would be really great if people who answered these posts actually had tried at least more than one or two, that way they would be qualified to answer, instead of chanting for one script or another. This doesn't give a true answer to the OP and makes it look desperate for certain scripts.

I'm a fan of Manchester United, the question never asked that, it asked what was the best free directory script. How many others other than esyndicat have you actually tried?

After reading 40-odd threads here in this forum, I will personally stay well clear of phplynx purely for the fact of the calibur of people they have representing them.

It is sad to see people who should be engaged in building a positive brand for their company through good people skills constantly resorting to bickering, bullying and general mean-spirited nastieness, however there it is.

In my 'day job' as a procurement specialist for a .gov.au, I deal with all manner of companies and professionals, and I find it most often the case that the attitude of a company is reflected by its representatives.

Claiming to be intelligent is not a license to be a prick, nor does it excuse the behaviour.

Delete this post if you wish, however it needed to be said.

Yeah right, and you wasn't put up to posting that little snippet either. Let me tell you one hard fact, there is nothing wrong with the script or the people that represent it, the problem lies with the jealous people who constantly have a dig at us either becuase they've been asked to do so or because they have nothing better to do.

You don't think for a second people are fooled by posts like this do you. You need to give people more credit than that. Check out the support at phpLynx, you'll see how fantastic it is, this place counts for nothing on that score. ;)

I have followed phplynx since it opened 2+ years ago and although I agree there has been many heated debates posted within this forum regarding the script and the previous owner I have to say the support given on the phplynx forum is brilliant, Gary does not mind helping anyone and if you care to read the testimonials area you will see this for yourselves.

To judge a script from the posts on this forum is obviously your decision but the people who do use the script are happy with the support they receive and if they dare post on here without getting into a battle with the people who are obviously out to slate the script I am sure the posts would be positive about the script.

    Thanks
