Best, Free Control Panel in VPS for a Beginner

I have been using shared hosting with Cpanel for years but now it came to a point i have to have a VPS. But i have no experience in that field. Nor i have so much money to spend.

Therefore i have spent my money for a managed VPS and they said they can install any control panel i want. But i dont know which one i should start with.

After paying for a managed VPS, i dont have any money left for licencing for cpanel or any other paid control panels. Therefore i must get a free & easy to use control panel.

    Please suggest!

PS: I have tried kloxo before. Its not so easy but its ok. I am hoping to get something better, easier than that. I should also add that my site has a pretty big SMF forum, a WP blog and few html pages.

control panel my friend is using is ISPConfig - ispconfig.org , according to him it is good replacement for cpanel. It supports admin, reseller and end-user user levels with configurable quotas for every service.

    other popular alternatives :
    Xpanel - xpanel.com & OpenPanel - openpanel.com,

ISP Config looks pretty advanced. It actually looks more advanced and harder than kloxo.

also i forgot to ask which one is the most popular?

    Cpanel/WHM is easy to use.
So is Plesk/Virtuozzo. Both have demos on their main web sites..

You can install and configure virtualmin and webmin on your VPS. More information, demo and screenshots about Webmin control panel you can find at: http://webmin.com/demo.html

Webmin is a very easy-to-use free control panel. If you're looking for a cPanel license they can get as cheap as $13 a month some places.

If you don't have income from your site than its better if you try it "Free cPanel license" or get "20 days Free License" from the cPanel because as a beginner the virtualmin/ webmin/ISPConfig panel are little hard to manage but in the end its depend on your budget, so before implementing any control panel on your VPS, make sure that you have all the information in your pocket else it will cost you problem in future....

Same webmin control panel and it's free .But webmin control panel is hard, clients are not able to set up the dns also whether they have the experience or not and no support .Come to other...... Direct admin or Cpanel, i'll prefer direct admin....available at low cost where cpanel is too much easy.

Since you paid for managed VPS, why not ask them throw in a DirectAdmin for you? It is pretty low cost for your provider

You mentioned your VPS is "managed" but $10-12 seems awfully low for a true managed VPS. What management do they promise?

Server configuration, hardening and optimization? All fresh VPSs need a certain amount of configuration and hardening which takes time. Throw in regular updates and other server management tasks and $12 is a screamin' deal for a managed VPS. =^0

As far as a recommendation, Webmin/Virtualmin is does require reading the documentation but it uses very few resources and does the job very well. The other cpanels mentioned are all more resource intensive and may be more than you need if you are only using your VPS for a single website.
