Best Forum Structure/Prefix for SEO

I operate a forum which has a fairly large Buy/Sell/Trade area. Most of the threads are chock full of great keywords and phrases, especially compared to other parts where members use less relevant titles.

Currently we have all Buy, Sell, Trade items in a general "Exchange" forum, with prefixes for each. The current prefixes are:
    • Buying
    • Trading
    • For Sale
I experimented with the prefixes trying to find the best for SEO, thinking most people search, "Some Product for sale".

My question is; do you think it is best to have these prefixes, or to break the forum into sub sections, i.e under the "Exchange" Forum we have a "Buy Category/Forum", "Sell Category", "Trade Category". This would allow the top keywords to be in the title page, then further have the prefixes under neath.

I am looking for opinions on best how to optimize these keyword rich threads, since currently we don't see great results from them.

    Thanks

I would probably need to see a link and or know the forum system to give you a realistic answer here.

That said, the first thing that comes to mind would be the palpable repercussions of changing your url structure site wide like that because you are going to create a ton of 404's. That can be mitigated as well typically but you need to really careful here.

    hope that helps a bit,
    Nigel
