    IPB= Invision power board
    Link: http://www.invisionpower.com

(I think they just call it IP for "Invision Power" now, but they use to call it IPB, so thats why I still call it that...)

You have to pay for the forum, but you can find a demo here:http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/demo.html

    To purchase, Go here:
    http://www.invisionpower.com/community/board/purchase.html

    Enjoy!

Thanks. It looks like it is a cross between vBulletin and Community Server. Definitely worth considering.

... I'm considering to establish a forum in the future. For the moment Vbulletin would be my first choice as well. Just as Shawn, I tend to visit vBulleting forums more then others. The next other software they use would be phpBB. I have a forum on one of my sites, but this came with the content management software (DotNetNuke) I'm using. I would give this a relatively good rating, given that it was included in the package.

My sentiments exactly. I love the way vbulletin forums work. When I first joined DP, I was just blown away by the layout and subscription functionality with threads. That functionality alone blows any other forum away. PHPBB does this to a degree, but vBulletin does it better.

That is the only downside to VBulletin. It costs a lot. It is worth expense in my opinion.

I really like SMF for the free forum option. If you are looking for the best and don't care about price then go with Vb.

SMF is the best and it's free,
what make you guys think vBulletin is best? is't because it's not free.

To Register in vBulletin you need to do about 3 or 4 clicks, while a click is enough with SMF.

    I prefer phpBB over anything.

Its such a simple script, and extremely easy to customize to your own liking... and you can make it do whatever vB, SMF or IPB can do with mods.

I am in love with SMF. If SMF dies (hope not), I might reconsider VBulletin as my new darling. :)

Invision Power Board is innovative and user friendly. IPB 3 will have a new plug in system and built in options for friendly urls.

vBulletin has poor admin control panel, is based on older coding, bloated with features that aren't needed, and the database size can grow out of control. It does have a decent mod community with a mod plug in system.

    Both have good support, though.

But IPB is overall better software.

I believe IPB is at v2.3.5 & you are talking about v3. Are you from IPB Team ?

Moreover, Do you think that IPB will move forward & vbulletin will sleep & take rest :D

I am sure, if IPB will take 1 step, vb will take atleast 2

No, the second sentence was about IPB 3, not the first.

And it seems lately vBulletin has been lagging, but I didn't say they would just sit there.

Those who haven't tried SMF should give the software a shot, and come back here and we would like to learn from your experience.

Are vBulletin and phpBB both reliable in terms of security?

I've tried SMF before and it's almost identical to the older versions of vBulletin. SMF doesn't offer near the mods and styles that vBulletin does. There is no comparison, vB is the best forum software there is, phpBB is second IMO. IPB just sucks!!! lol
