I'd like suggestions on what the best forum software is for SEO purposes. I don't care to much about my users, as I will be adding most of the content and most of my vistors will be one time vistors from search engines. Waht forum software with what modifcations would you suggest. Is the price of Vbulletin worth it?

Whatever software you use, be prepared to do some tweaking to make it SE friendly. Out of the box, vBulletin is probabvly closer (see http://www.vbwebmaster.com/forums/ for more information). On the other hand, it isn't hard to make phpBB SE friendly (and you do NOT need mod_rewrite to do it with either phpBB or vBulletin), it's hard to beat the price, and so far at least there are a lot more free customizations for phpBB, being open source.

Interesting, is that written from some other type of forum software. I'm importing a database of posts and think I will run into problems. But if its a heavily modfied smf or phpbb or something it might work

When i looked through this topic i saw the link to: http://www.seo-board.com/ it seems very nice and has all the options i need, is it really friendly to Google? Or should i just get PHPBB and tweak it?

I don't know anything about seo-board... first I've heard of it.

However, I think you'll find that phpBB has a very large installation and support base. Depending on what you want to do with the board, that may be important to you.

I just installed seo-board , i must say in my book it beats phpBB by a mile. It is great, easy to use, has all the functions a forum needs, and if you have some knowledge of CSS you can style the forum anyway you want. Also i feel it's great to intergrate in existing layouts.

What you know :p I'm stuck. I think $160 is not worth an hours worth of work.

I like minibb myself. On the outside, it is very similar to seo-board, but I don't know the specific differences between the two.
