Dear Friends, I salute vBulletin, they rules! But I need to install a new forum and I don't want a paid script. After some research I need to choose the one among phpBB, SMF and myBB. Please help me choosing this if you have experience with forums. I need to know the better in all aspects like Security, mods(specially SEO), User-friendliness and many more. I will be very thankful for your suggestions. Vijay
I recommend "NOT" using myBB. Three days ago I installed it, made a new design, and layout. Then upon the first visitor the site was hacked and totally destroyed. Now that's one un-stable forum.
Thank you for your suggestion Kennedy. SMF looks good but I need some more detailed explanation regarding the features. Sorry for this, so I'll accept your words and only two are in consideration. phpBB and SMF. phpBB is very old but I've heard some security issues and SMF looks great but new, so which one is good in your view. Thanks
SMF hands down! phpbb is unsecure... and their forums look blah. SMF have great features in the admin panel, features that you won't have with phpbb without intensive hacks. Search engines love SMF for some reason There are mods for smf (mods for smf are simple uploading a zip folder, and boom, you are done! -phpbb is complicated). For new forums, smf have welcoming posts for your users, you can set that users get notification by email for new posts on subscribed posts (great feature to get users coming back to make more posts). I can go on and on about why smf is the best, but it'd take me a week When you need anything for SMF it is there. If you need support, you'll have help in minutes, if you want to rank good in google, then smf is for you.
I need a free classified script like yourownclassifieds.com or if any yourownclassifieds.com nulled script is available. please send me link. I m a developer and i want it for test purpose only.
Neither MyBB nor phpBB are insecure, but any forum software can be installed badly, which makes hacking it easy. All 3 of your choices are good ones, and I've used them all. What it boils down to is how responsive the crew is now (forget that they were great 2 years ago if they haven't answered a single question in 6 months) and which one you like best - look at features, plugins and the look, both of the forum and the themes you can get for it. Then sit on the forum's forum for a while and see what people are doing wrong that lets their site get hacked, that makes it run badly, etc. - and don't do those things. My personal preferences are MyBB (because I've written a few plugins for it, so I understand how it works under the hood) and phpBB, because I liked the way it ran. I just don't like how SMF operates (from the user's viewpoint), but many people do.
