I am surprised there is no mention of Shopify here. In my opinion, it's miles ahead of the other products in the market. The app-store is pretty robust too and you can get a lot of add-ons for your business. That's definitely my first choice.

I've used WooCommerce since the inception of my business. I've given thought to using a different platform but WooCommerce is quite flexible. You don't need every paid extension on the market and there are plenty of free viable extensions available.

Short answer "no" . Every E-commerce platform has its own advantages and disadvantages.
For Shopify : Huge Sellers Database , Customer Support is plus whereas high transaction fees and plan pricing is high would be negative
For BigCommerce : More sellers , more designing tools whereas poor support , high pricing
So No platform in the world best for any business. so try for few days and decide which is right for you. Every E-commerce platform offering min 7 days to 30 days trial period.

You can decide the best based on few things.
    1. Scalable platform
    2. Customer support
    3. Responsive themes
    4. SEO features
    5. Product options
    6. Integrate payment gateways and logistics
    7. 3rd party apps integration
    8. budget pricing
    9. no transaction charges on sales or minimal
    10. marketing support

If you want to self host I'd go for Woocommerce, there are loads of useful as well as useless plugins and great themes that can be found on themeforest. Shopify looks pretty promising however the costs is the only thing that would be a drawback plus i've heard they have SEO issues.

As we know that its very difficult to figure out which which shopping cart software best meets your needs in todays ecommerce platform market. If you are considering starting your own store, then I would like to suggest you to compare with different platforms such as Shopify, Bigcommerce, 3dcart, Volusion and Big Cartel.
I feel Woocommerce is involved with user-friendly experience, making it perfect for ecommerce startups to get a feel for online business in such a way which is easy to digest, and not much cost involved.

We strongly think that Magento would be the better solutions for your first store. Magento can easily handle even the great number of products and customers and allow you to expand further in the future if necesary. There are a lot of benefits in using Magento platform, too many to count in one mess. It has a very enhanced system for managing the products, clients, billing, mobile shopping and so on. It has a lot of features for cross-selling, up-selling, special offers and other tools for marketing. It is the most used e-commerce platform all over the world (more than 25% of the entire market) Magento received a lot of rewards, but most importantly It has powered most of the 1000 Top Best Internet Retailers in the last 3 years.

There is nothing free and good in this world- or I am aware of. Free is free to download but in case of any changes you have to be ready to bear cost of maintenance- someone have to fix the issues for you- this way free software is getting very expensive and unpredictable part of your business. Do you really have a budget and time to build up castle on dunes?

It is cheaper to rent since in case of any issues like API changes, updates etc. service provider have to have in mind their competitors in terms of software.

The best e-commerce software is one which is:
    - reliable,
    - over features (you might need right tool in hands when the time comes- later there is no time for that),
    - omnichannel,
    - payment integrated,
    - reference association pre-certificated (Trusted Shops for example),
    - orders processing automated,
    - WMS enabled (sooner or lated you might need data collectors support for example).
    - rapid product feed exchange (saves time money and mistakes).
