Full disclosure. I work at Bigcommerce. If you are brand new to selling online, there's a lot of advantages of a SaaS platform, such as Bigcommerce. For example, we have dozens of free and premium responsive themes, easy product management, and the ability to seamlessly integrate with many of the third-party apps that you are already using to start your business.

Oscommerce is really good. I have built tons of websites with you. You can customize or create any feature in it. Magento is good too, followed by Opencart in third place. One of the ways to judge a platform is by the number of modules, the number of people in the community, and the length of time the platform has been around. All of these have a free version which will work well for most business owners.

This depends much on your platform for your website. I would recommend Wordpress + Woocommerce alternatively Shopify.

    Best Regards,

Magento is the most known and most recommended when we're talking about best eCommerce platform for small business. That’s because it is the best free open source eCommerce platform (yes, I believe so).

Free: Free is always good, whether its hugs or eCommerce platforms.
Scalable: The architecture is designed for scalability with in-built support for most payment gateways. Little wonder that Magento is often called the “platform for growth”.
Open-Source: Magento is widely supported by individual as well as corporate users. This means widespread availability of thousands of useful extensions.
SEO: Magento is SEO ready right out of the box. It creates search engine friendly, keyword rich URLs and includes extensions to generate meta data automatically.

I personally like Shopify. My first month was July and was almost able to clear 100k in revenue, fell short at 95k.

Woo Commerce is a good option for small business e-commerce websites and also can compare different e-commerce software such as zepo, shopify etc.
