What software should I be using to create an ebook? Can I just use word and export as pdf? What do you recommend? .
I recommend eWriter Pro. It's made for ebooks. Otherwise, Word works well. Try PrimoPDF to export to .PDF.
OpenOffice is the best choice in my opinion, you can save directly to PDF without any problems as well as converting multiple document formats to multiple other document formats, and it's completely free so you've got nothing to lose. Hope this helps.
There is one option you can consider. Use openoffice to create your ebook and use the internal PDF converter to make your PDF ebook version. If you would like to gain backlink or build your own army of affiliates, you can purchase viralpdf software that allows you to make your PDF ebook brandable, by doing so, you will have the ability to giveaway the brandable PDF ebook and effortlessly build an army of affiliate promoting your sites or any of your backend products from within the ebook brandable links. Try to be imaginative and you will see how great the result you will be gaining in the shortest period.
Some of the software is questionable. I just bought something the other week to save my ebook, but it created all these weird boxes around chapter titles and other places. It may have been that I didn't know exactly how to use the software. But this brings up my other point: The instructions for using some of the software is poorly written. So before you buy, try to read the manual first and get a trial use, if possible. I'll try the software I bought again at some point. But for right now, I wasted my money. It's just sitting on my computer taking up space, unusable.
Hey You, Is there any way you can send me a copy of eWriter Pro. I'd be very interested. Thanks for all the other information in this thread - I didn't even know you could save a word document as a pdf. Does it mess up the formatting? I'll have to go get the plugin from MS. Doug
I found the word plugin for saving as pdfs was a bit tricky, but that might be coz it was at school. Trust me, I'd just go for OpenOffice.
Try this ebook compiler because not only is it free to try, but they have great training videos. They claim you can learn how to use it in 10 minutes. Also, if you check out all the ebook compilers out there they run close to hundred dollars and this one is about thirty bucks. Another thing to consider is why hand over your hard earned cash, then have to try to figure out how to use the software or read some manual all day, and if you don't like .... then you have to go through the hassle of trying to get your money back. It seems that at least these guys got it right. They give you the software and then teach you how to use it with videos so you don't waste your time. And only then ... if you like it ... you buy it ... makes more sense Hats off to good marketing
If you are looking for something that converts your docs to PDF, go for the online application called Zoho Writer/. You can import your documents to a whole range of formats, and can work on them from any location.
No matter what software you'll use, just make sure the ebook is in PDF format and not exe. I myself using Word and convert it to PDF using Adobe Acrobat.
