    Heya all ,

I am thinking about starting an online shop but still i can't decide which e-commerce script to use.
I've heard for xt-commerce , os-commerse and zen cart. But are they any good? which one out of those 3 is the best? or are they any others that are far better than those? Could you suggest me one?

    Looking forward for your replies.
    Thanks in advance.

IMO,oscommerce is better coz it open source and there are many plugin for it.
What more important is the script is updated periodically so that there is no bug at it

os-commerse is free and excellent . It should be your first choice .
If you like simple script, wordpress with some commerce plugin will work too .

I've been seeing more and more about Magento Commerce lately. Which of your sites currently use Magento and for how long?

How many products are you planning on selling? CubeCart,OS Commerce,Zen Cart and all are all great if you are planning on doing hundreds of products, but if you are just trying to sell a couple products adding buttons for google checkout and paypal checkout is simple and that way you don't have to form your website around a ecommerce script.

if you are selling hundreds of products here is a decent example of what you can do with it http://corsportusa.com

it really just depends on what you want to do with the website, so with more details the more people myself and other people here can help you

I have about 11,000 products running on osCommerce in test mode and it seems to be working great. I am switching from another ecommerce engine that was costing me $100 per month and is horrible. osCommerce is looking really good, so far.

    Hello,
Also, if you don't mind for some late topic discussion I would like to add in on this. Its seems that alot of people here are leaning more toward the os-commerce side of things, but I would really have to disagree. I personaly feel that zen-cart is one of the better open source e-commerce solutions out there.

I mean specially if you are looking to start out from scratch with very little to no capital set aside. I mean first, zen-cart is very easy to use for any merchant account you have or any paypal account. Second, it has alot more free templates and themes to choose from than os-commerce does.

Also, zen-cart is really really easy to integrate into new sites and change around later if you feel you need to.

So all in all I personally from my stand point feel that zen-cart is alot better e-commerce solutions when it comes to working for free open source solutions.

Oscommerce is a good script. It has some bugs, but I still think it is a great script and they have a great support forum.

The problems with OScommerce seem to be more with "lagging behind" regarding changes for many web hosts. This is especially true if your hosting has migrated to MySql5 and/or PHP5. There are some patches and fixes but they are not part of the "core code" which means that whenever the core is fixed (i.e. version 3.x) then you will have several changes to deal with at that time. IMHO.

I helped a friend set up a site using ZenCart. After researching, it seem like the best option.

Personally I dislike oscommerce. Magento looks very nice but has very huge server requirement. I think ZenCart is the best open source ecommerce software. If you are not a newbie I recommend you to try it, but If you look for a well supported product and have the willingness to pay for it feel free to visit Boss Cart link in my signature.
    Thanks

Hi I am also interested in finding out the best scripts. Why doesnt anyone ehre chooses Jooma virtuemart ? I would like joomla because I am already familar with joomla, and it also has shopping templates for sale.

Are there any scripts with free templates ? I saw zen cart. A search shows tat os commerce's template are only for sale, no free stuff yet. And probably the default template of OS commerce turns me off.
