best domain purchase practices

    i found a domain that i would like to purchase. it will expire end of july.. what should i do to make sure that i get it?

    Not much you can do if the person who has it registers it again. Just keep watching or buy it from them if they re-register it.

    godaddy and register offer a service that is suppose to help purchase a domain if that person doesn't re-register it.. have you used a service like this before?

    Spend the time between now and July looking at how domain dropping occurs. Depending on the desireability of the name, others may be eyeing it too. If you think that is likely, you should consider a domain dropping service (like pool, snapnames, enom).

    You should look at the current registrar and research (and/or contact them) how they drop expiring domains. They all have different time periods... but once a domain expires, it usually takes about 45 days before it really becomes available for registration again.

    Of course, don't tell anyone the name you want.
