    Hi,

I am trying to figure out some domain names that help SE placement AND are memorable.

    Keywords:
    blue
    widget

    bluewidget.com is taken

    Then should I do:

    blue-widget.net (.com taken)
    or
    blue-widget.cc
    or
    blue-widget.info

    Advice?

.net might be better for people. it won't have any additional effect for G, though.

adding words might be preferable to some people (compared to typing '-') but that's just me. :)

    I would recommend

    bluewidgetsite.com

(Or the two you mention are also excellent)

...any way you can get a .com and eliminate the hyphen.

I started with a .cc so I could get my primary key word. The site has been successful, but the issues are

    - credibility
    - name recognition
    - authority - the dot com is "the" site
    - minor issues such as higher reg fees and slightly slower nameserver conversion (I don't consider this a major issue but someone else might).

If you are trying to create value, think of it as, whatever value you start with will be multiplied by your hard work...so even if you need to purchase a premium domain you will have much greater value in the end.

Having the dash (-) isn't such a great idea. I'd try to stick to just words as it's a lot easier to type and remember.

Adding words like 'live', 'now', 'site', etc. almost ensures that you find something to register:)

"names2buy" (an apt name for this thread:D ) ok, I am tending that way. "-" is not something someone will remember, and it may look a bit spammy as well. Also no one probably remembers '.net' or '.org' or '.info' or '.cc'.

If that is the case, that leaves adding a word at the end of the phrase and doing '.com'.

Of course, one could do 'bluewidget@' which is 'bluewidget.at' but that is $79 per year at goDaddy.

Hey dude, blue-widget.info seems ok and the .net too. Don't think too much for your domain name TLD they are all the same... Just use the one you like more and what you think people like more..

I tend to agree. You can almost always come up with a com
    name that works.

I remember hearing the story of the company 1-800-contacts
Whenever one of their competitors ran an ad they got calls
because people didn't remember the competitor's phone number
    and thought it was 1-800-contacts.

    Widget-Blue.com?
    widgets-in-blue.com
    blue-widgets-blue

make it memorable and make it com. Otherwise you are
    sending customers to your competitors

    best regards
    wiz
