Best domain for SEO

    Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if choosing keyword only domain is better than a slightly longer domain name. For example, if we sold furniture our keyword is obviously furniture. If we spent the same amount of effort for both furniture.com and furniturecity.com which would be driving more relevant traffic?

I understand that furniture.com has many of its own benefits but in strictly SEO terms, would adding a word like city or home onto the product name be harmful? Or would the advantage of buying furniture.com vs. furniturecity.com be negligible SEO wise?

    Many thanks for your insight

Well, owning the category .com of your domain has an SEO benefit indirectly, people will link to you with your anchor text. You own furniture.com people link to you with the keyword furniture. If its furniturecity, they use that. Now which keyword is getting more searches and would you rather rank higher for? Also, category term is far more likely to be getting type in traffic which is free customers for you each day.

    What about furniture.net?

If it came down to furniturecity.com ($10) or furniture.net ($5k) which would you go with?

I think i would go for furniturecity.com, it may be 2 words but your still getting that main keyword in it.

both? all depends on your situation, how much money you have, how much youre willing to spend, how you plan to go about doing things, etc. Keyword.com isnt a BRAND per se and affords less TM protection later, there is many ways to skin a cat, just find the one that works best for you.

adsense wise - furniture.net (pure SEO)
ecommerce wise - furniturecity.com - You need a good, catchy name.

Honestly, I would stick with furniturecity.com, the extra "city" wont do much to hurt your serps. A friend of mine ranked page 1 for a VERY competitive keyword even though his domain was KEYWORDrandomword.com

So it sounds like the wiser thing to do would be to go with furniturecity.com and spend the savings on more high quality links.

I would buy furnaturecity.com as well, and spend your remaining 4990 on advertising, marketing and link building. You will make more money back on your investments.

Agree with mindiam1, unless you got a large company and are throwing thousands of dollars around on a regular basis, just go with the cheaper one.
