I would say .net unless you are targeting a specific country - then the country specific extension would be best.

It depends on the keyword(s) and what site are you going to build
But yes, usually .net is the best choice after .com ;)

    I'd go with .net

.org, .biz and .info wouldn't make any sense

    Yes definitely .net

If your site is kind a social site then I think you also go for an option of .org

I'd say .org, .net, .info, .co.uk. But it depends what name your aiming for and what your site is about. For example .info works well for hostyour.info

According to Domain Tools, as of today, there are 13,195,674 active .Net as opposed to 8,570,234 .Org, 6,665,524 .Info, 2,133,233 .Biz, and 1,728,771 .Us - i wouldn't say .Net is the best, but the most preferred TLD after .Com with 88,500,980.

I would not consider .net. If I were you I would try to buy the .com or use a different variation.

The fact is that you will lose traffic to the .com site.

I'd always go with NET or ORG... But if you can get the .net extension over the .org, definitely go for the .net.
