I agree with John, the best way to submit directory is Manually. There would less mistake and no spamming and best of all you can submit in those only you want.

I agree manual seems to get a better acceptance rate, I have only really found semi-automated submission software but they don't let you add your own lists and the lists included are old and have already been over submitted. Would be interested in a fully automated software to try out but I am not sure many submissions would be approved.

manual submission is also my preferred option although I can understand using automatic submission tools if you are a Web developer and have to manage a lot of sites

I'm always afraid of using automatic tools. I've seen no benefit from them in the past. Manual is the way to do it.

Most of the automatic submission will be filtered by spam and got more chance for getting deleted.

You should refrain from automated submissions. You might feel good for some time that you have submitted to thousands of directories in a matter of 3-4 days, but don't expect results from them. Manually submitted links in proper category of a good quality and high PR directory can gain you good sustained benefits over a period of time.

I usually submit manually, but some automated support would be nice.

If you submit manually you need to be more selective with the directories you submit to.

There are many around like someone mentioned gsa, it is good but expensive if you have just one website and the other thing is lot of directories are in dutch, french etc so not sure if it's really worth. Manual submission is good but internet is in its modern age , automation is certainly the key. I am still hunting for a cheap and best one. If you beat me to it than pls let us all know.
