I currently do them at $0.40 per submission, i live in the UK so doing them cheaper than that is not worth my time, while theres UK based services that will offer it cheaper, i would bet my money that 90% of them are not as honest as they suggest.

I dont think theres any industry standard, packages and prices differ, the quality differs too.

What you want to look for in a submission service is someone who will not only track what they've submitted, but they'll also track where you've been listed. If the submission service is willing to give you some statistics each month about where your links are being accepted then you've got a much better chance that you're not wasting your money.

I have tried free directory submitter by glocksoft. It worked ok and I was able to submit to alot of directories in a short space of time. However I have seen very few results from this, no backlinks generated - I suspect becuase the submitter software is just tieing into thousands of generic phpld sites the directories are either abandoned or no longer exist or not even indexed by google. The other problem is that many of the directories have different category structures, so there is still and element of manual work required. I think the best solution would be to find a low cost resource and outsource your directory submissions which are then done manually.

Dont use any software for directory submission, it will affect your promotional work. Better you hire a SEO person to do it.

don't use automatic submitters, there is really almost no benefit for the pricing your paying even if it is cheap

Being honest some websites charge an "unbelievably" low fee of $9 but do a very poor job. Some even do it "cheap" for $300. In my opinion either hire someone to do it that you know. Or do it yourself, that way you know you will get the link.

As far as I'm concerned, automatic link submission is one big fail right from the off. The software is great, except that it's spamming software. That's all - nothing genuine about it. It was made to annoy people. You'll get crappy links from crappy websites that Google has punished already, and then you never know, maybe the big G will punish you too.

I like to try and write what I think people will want to link to in my niche, but in the rare occasions I've bought links (for sites that I wanted to turn around quickly), I've used submit5.com. Having closely watched them build links for someone I associate with occasionally, the links look of a decent quality (and they come slowly, which is a good thing from what I've heard). I must admit I've never used another link builder simply because I don't trust them not to just plug my site into spamming software.

    Just my two pence :)
