Because it is faster to type three lines than trawl through a load of garbage that is useless to what I am looking for!

If you think of garbage, garbage you get.
BUt still, searching is a lot easier.
You just started yet another damn thread about directory scripts.

Hope you are happy in your laziness.

My favourite is phplinkdirectory.com (although eSyndiCat is good).

Why phpLD? Cause its got a fantastic support forum and its highly customisable!!!

Ok looks like phpld is the way to go but how do I get free mysql databse?

My hosting company dont have it on offer and I really dont want to pay for it as I am just 'playing'.

    Any suggestions?

I would not recommend starting a directory to just "play". And there is no way around paying for a mysql database, that's a pretty basic hosting necessity.

Start your own local server to try out features and purchase a real hosting plan when you're serious. Check out: http://www.wampserver.com/en/

Alternatively if your not that confident setting up a testing server download the trial version or purchase Sokkit.net - its very quick and easy to install and you'll be able to have your test server up and running in just a few minutes!!!
