Best directory script, free or paid

I have read the posts, visited http://www.internet-search-engines-faq.com/web-directory-scripts.shtml, and would like to know what you think is the search engine friendly
directory script out there.

It seems like biz-directory.org has a script but I also see that at one time they included web bugs and a back door in the program (free of charge :), so I am hesitant on shelling out the $700.

Anyone have any experience with the latest version of biz-directory? Is it worth it to pay the $700?

How about the latest mods to free version? I am willing to pay someone to make mods for me on biz-directory's free script

A program with the following features would be great:
- Static urls
- Category suggestion
- Basic, express and sponsored listings
- Directory backup
- Unlimited categories.
- Users suggest urls and you accept/reject them.
PHP:

But PHPLD at the moment doesn't handle category suggestions nor directory backupt, and as great as it is, some people have problems submitting to it with alternative browsers. Otherwise it's great, I know all that will be fixed in one of the future builds....

If you are considering using PHP Link Directory at some point, and there is an important missing feature, feel free to pop in to our support forums. It may be that someone already has done the mod, or that someone is willing to help you, or that at least it could be done cheaply, so please feel welcome asking if you need something.

Ah and : Phplinkdirectory, first one on my list as free scripts.

Still in some beta stages, but the best script i could find that is so easily modified.

Great community too. People jump in right away to give you a hand.

Sounds like phplinkdirectory.com or biz-directory.org [any examples of phplinkdirectory in action (with ads)?]

Should I shell out the $700 for biz-directory pro?

I would go with phplinkdirectory. I checked out a lot of directories for the tool in my sig, and phplinkdirectory just looks more professional on most sites. Its default look is just better, and the search by url actually works.

I would go for WSN Links its only $50 US I think, no point spending $700 when WSN Links can probably do exactly the same. Though you might want to look into it.

Momentarily no.. The image script was done incorrectly by someone. There actually is a fix somewhere in the developer forums. :)

Yes, I know about this. If you have any trouble let me know.
Basically, it just comes down to spending $50-100 to get someone to give us something better than we have now, and especially something that is known to work in many different server environments.

Is it possible to remove the default categories and create your own categories and subcategories in phpld ?

Default categories ? Maybe that's a new version.

Off course you can create your own.

I don't think there are any default categories in PHPLD, at least not in the builds I used. You have to start completely from scratch, or you can use my categories database that was posted on PHPLD forums as a starting base.

I know someone release a .sql file where you can import some "pre-made" categories, but by default you start with zero categories.
