Find directories that have a high page rank and start with these.. Work your way down. If you have a budget then spend some money getting your links approved quickly and on highly ranked pages.

    Try free directories at: AddURL.nu.

Also, DMOZ is of no use as it can take upto a lifetime to get your site approved there. Try to submit to only directories with high PR.

    Good luck,

Dmoz of course because it's the 'authority' just don't hold your breath waiting to get your site approved. For what it's worth, Yahoo Directory is a great way to increase your site popularity/serps because Yahoo is an Authority Site. It's $299 a year but well worth it in my opinion.

I have also heard that it is bad for ranking to submit to too many directories at once. Is this true? What do you guys think of the "run this program and submit your site to 1,000,001 directories ads?" How many directories is it safe to submit the information to at once?

I agree Dmoz is the best one. Though it really takes time to get approved.

Exactly how long does it take to get approved for DMOZ? Does any one else believe it is worth it to pay Yahoo $300 per year? Can someone please educate me on the "no-follow" stuff, and the auto submitters? Thanks again.

Here is a different type of directory, it is more of an advertising directory that you might find useful. http://FreeDirectoryListing.net You can easily post a few advertisements to promote most of your websites in this directory with INSTANT approval and DOFOLLOW LINKS! Good luck and feel free to add it to your lists :)

Google looks for a natural progression to link building so a big jump all at once from similar sources (link directories) is not going to look natural. Add them at a rate that you can keep up with gradually over a few months. Also build links for different sources, not just directories.

There are many high PR directories that took time to approve so I suggest take time on directories with PR 3, 2 and 1 only. They are fast approving directories. It is also nice if your site have reciprocal page so you can submit to those directories that required reciprocal.

Dreamerr: Thank you for answering one of my questions

AutoTerminal: Thank you for your advice, but I have no idea what an PR rank is. Could you or someone on here please elaborate?

Trueman: Thank you for the URL

Can someone on here please explain the whole "no-follow" thing?

Thanks everyone. You really are educating me and others one post at a time.
