    Hello,

I will be submitting a press release and wondering which day is the best day to send it off.

    Thanks.

I think the best days for submitting a press release are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. For many, Monday being the first day of the week is a catch up and getting into the routine type of day, making it not the ideal day to distribute your press release.

Mate you're a real treasure. Never thought in this perspective before, which perhaps is why very similar releases, posted to the exact same websites had very different outcomes.

Would be interesting to see the compared statistics of multiple releases compared by the day of their release. I'll keep in mind this when submitting my next release and I'll post the results here or in my blog (if I manage to get one here).

    Regards, George

Yea, definitely don't release it on the weekend. I've heard monday is actually too competitive. I guess everyone releases stuff on monday, because it's the first day of the week. Generally my sites receive less traffic across the board on the weekends, people just don't use the net as much. Does anybody know of any sites where the traffic actually increases over the weekend? I'm sure they exist.

Tuesdays and Wednesdays... Fridays aren't hideous or anything, but just before the weekend you could lose a few next day visitors.

Mondays are generally a busy media day, meaning you need to compete with more people for their attention - not good unless you have extremely urgent news that absolutely must go out that day, or if it's important enough to compete with the "big stuff" going on in the world.

Thursdays aren't a good day either, if you're really trying to get media coverage, including offline. That's because Thursday is a common deadline day for print media outlets (not all, but a lot). So by Thursday they already have what they need, and they'll generally only be looking for small "fluff" pieces as filler. Of course if your news is barely newsworthy, you admit that, and don't mind a little coverage as a fluff piece, no harm in sending it then.

Deadlines and schedules vary widely in different media outlets though. Of course it's always ideal to submit manually yourself, and know their editorial calendars and lead time requirements. Above is just a generalization.
