I am ready to send out my second email newsletter and was wondering if anyone had any advice from experience of the best day/time to send out emails to get the best open rate. I know it may vary depending on niche and market, but I am just hoping to get an idea. Anyone?
depends on you niche and who your target market is. Do these people have day jobs?? Are they more likely to browse your site on the weekend?
I would say that the majority have day jobs. So, I am not sure if they will open it more on their computer at work or at home. I was thinking that at home, there may be more distractions with kids, family, dinner, tv, etc. than at work. (my niche market are men/woman age 35-55). I am not really sure, though. I know many people who are on the Internet more at work than at home.
Generally speaking the best time of day to send mail is mid morning...according to our internal stats across huge lists from many many niches.
I would do it on Tuesdays..thats usually when all the movie dvd releases and cd's come out. I guess there is something about that day. You can do like noon or i would say 6pm when usually everyone is out of work and checking their emails.
Thanks everyone. I think Tuesday is a good day. I have heard that ebay auctions ending on Tuesday do best as well. Not sure what it is about that day, but I will go with it.
Hello, I have done some testing with my own lists and have found that I usually get the best open rates when I send e-mail campaigns at 10:00 a.m. CT Tuesday or 2:00 p.m. Thursday. I have yet to try a weekend send, but have been tempted to do so sometimes soon. If I move forward with a weekend send, I will let you know if I do better/worse. One food for thought... Although I still look at open and click-through rates to gauge success (I have a lot of historical data to compare) I am moving more towards only looking at conversions to gauge success. My thought is I can have tons of people open and click one of my e-mails, but if my landing page stinks and everyone leaves then have I done a good job? Again, food for thought... -PRADCO
My email newsletters are generally targeted to the business community. My preference has always been to have someone receive my newsletter first thing in the morning when they come into the office. I believe that most office workers plan for a few minutes to go through new emails each morning as they are drinking their coffee. I prefer that it be either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday morning to avoid any weekend-itis on either side of the weekend. Anyway, I generally focus on Europe or the U.S., so to achieve my goals, I tend to send out the email some time after 5:00pm west coast time when, theroretically, most Californians have left the office.
I do mine at 5-6PM. This is when my servers reach maximum capacity so I figure it must be the most busy time. Kids home from school, adults home from work. This is for game servers by the way.
I believe Tuesday or Wednesday are the best day to send out email. Early in the morning and also after 5pm is good too.
