    Hi,
i currently have a health portal about all kind of diseases and so on. At the moment i am using Wordpress and it gets to complicated to handle thousands of pages and categories with it.

Depending on the subcategories i want to arrange the content in many different ways.

Which CMS can you recommend to do such big websites?

Joomla and Drupal are the best choices for making large online system with large database. They both have excellent architecture and features which are flexible enough to build customized online portal. Drupal is little harder to learn and set up compared to Joomla but once it is understood properly, it gets very easy to customize with its built-in tools. Joomla and Drupal CMS are the best CMS for building and handling simple as well as complex and large online communities.

I was wondering why Wordpress wasn't able to handle it as well? Perhaps a simple theme change might be the solution as some a created for the soul purpose of handling such a large site (and a lot are not). However I would also optimize the database and maybe use a cache plugin.

Drupal is the best one if you are having problems with wordpress. Most of people don't like joomla as its disadvantages.
