    I would recommend Drupal. Not because everyone uses it but because I have used it in multiple instances and I have always LOVED it.

    TYPO3 does a good job managing news articles and there are quite a few additional extensions to enhance the system like comments, ratings, human readable URLs, etc. Drupal is good too however I got hooked on the TYPO3 templating system.

    Hi, depending on whether you're looking at a community style news site or a one man news site, the choices will vary.

    e107 is a good option for news & small community.
    Snews is another possibility for a news site.

    Otherwise, head across to http://www.opensourcecms.com - they have demo's of many CMS systems, play around with it to find something that suits you best...
