Hi, The last couple of days I've been gathering information about creating a website which provides information about tv shows. Now for the normal content (articles and stuff) I can use pretty much any CMS I want. But I don't know how to manage the user supplied content. I want users to be able to add links for each episode of each tvshow (like fanpop, yidio, sidereel,...). So I should be able to work with categories and subcategories. I need a custom form which users can fill in, with the proper information and that needs to immediatly be integrated in the website (or after approval). Obviously I'm gonna need user-management aswell, but that doesn't have to be too advanced. I'm open to all suggestions, Joomla, Drupal, etc, but my main concern is to find the right modules then to manage the user supplied links properly.
i'd recommend the jreviews component for joomla. You're gonna love it. The video's on the jreviews site actually show how to build...a TV show review site! The component can be fully integrated with several joomla community building components. You can find it under "user review site scripts" on the site in my signature. Definitely worth a look to get your neurons firing with ideas!
i think jreviews has a long way to go to be taken seriously. i have it setup on casinoreviews.com. It works okay, but alot of the addons being made are under subpar, the core needs more options for creating menu links to specific criteria, and the urls suck unless you know how to make alot of hacks like i did. I think it will eventually be very solid, but for a serious site, its currently an "okay" solution...particularly in the modern era, where there needs to be intricate community and profile systems for real people to take advantage of the setup and contribute.
I set it up on my site and was quite happy. For the urls, all you need to do is create a hidden joomla menu. this is common joomla practice. I still think it is the best review script out there right now. Its joomla - so it needs lots of work. With some good add ons for seo, I quite like it. Its simple and does the job.
it does do a simple job, but are there sites using it successfully? not really. let me know if you find one. you can list a new item and it gets a rating of 5 stars. It will outrank in "top listings section" an item that has been reviewed 300 times but doesn't have an overall 5 star rating. This is an example of the components inability to be taken seriously by a real website. yes it works and looks good on casinoreviews.com, but as far as what its meant to do and abilities to promote user reviews, it is not really good. I could make static html editor reviews on the site and have better conversions....basically, the component has not contributed any real value to the site. the hidden menu links create problems when you're listing 300 casinos and want control over the modules without having to create 1000 unique modules in the backend and edit them one at a time. It would be nice to see yootheme's zoo component try to make a legitimate review system, as they would probably do it alot better. Also, i mentioned in my pm, that jreviews could work okay in addition to a good community integrated with kunena forum.
