    Hi,

It might sounds like a newbie question but I'm here to learn ^^

I have always chosen a domain name related to the subject of my websites ( Random ex : ferraricarsrocks.com for a website talking about ferrari cars )

Sometimes we see websites that have a domain name that has nothing to do with the subject of their websites. They simply picked a name that sounds good.

Does having a related domain name has really a bigger effect on seo or it's almost the same thing with a random domain name?

Thank you very much and sorry for the english mistakes

You definitely want to pick a domain name that relates to the subject of the site. It's better SEO. To go a step further, you can type your keywords into the google keywords tool and see what other keywords are related and if they're getting more searches than the ones you have. For example if the website is called "'ferrari parts express" and there are more people searching for "ferarri car parts," than "ferarri parts," you could do something like ferarricarparts.com. (just as an example...i'm not sure which one of these is actually more popular. :) )
Yes there are other factors that contribute to a website's search engine ranking, but you want to take advantage of every factor you have control of to make the site SEO friendly.

Completely agree with Cybria - it's always better to have a domain name which is related to the subject matter on your site. Not only will this help that particular phrase and phrases related to it rank in the search engines - it's also better for the users too!

Personally, if I visit a site that's on a domain which isn't related to what the site is about I'll be suspicious of the site, will think it is just a useless spam site and I'll usually leave. If you have a related domain your visitors know from the start that they've come to the right place.
