I've been putting a "blog sized" chitika box right at the bottom of each post on my playstation blog. I was thinking if I actually got people to read a post, putting a relevant product there would generate some good clickthrough. Clickthrough has been pretty abysmal. I can't really tell, since I just added the sid tracking day before yesterday, but I think it's probably been around 0.1%. My AdSense clickthrough has been much higher than that. Anyhow I'm going to try some different placements, and was looking for some feedback. I'm thinking above-the-fold is perhaps more critical than I thought at first. It looks a lot worse to me, but if it works I'm willing to sacrifice a little prettiness. Part of the problem is I like to start each post with an image. Do you think I should move the image to the bottom, or somewhere else inline? I've tried a couple of different things with the first two posts on the blog. I've got a benner above the article, and a tiny square at the start. Let me know what you think might work. I've got different sid's on each style, so maybe I'll gather some evidence over the next few days. http://www.playstation-blog.net Any thoughts much appreciated. Cheers, Gary
I personally like the little square on the top, but I suspect that the banner you have on top will perform best.
One vote for banner on top. How about an inline banner: http://www.playstation-blog.net/2005/11/wireless-video-on-psp/ Better? Worse? I think it looks a little better, if nothing else.
I put banner ads at the bottom of the post with no borders. Works very well for me - 20% average conversion.
Haven't found anything interesting yet. I've got a different Chitika sid on every type/placement combo I tried. Trouble is my site still has pretty low traffic. I've had a few clicks on pretty much everything except the inline square next to the picture. So basically, I dunno. Sorry. Thanks for the feedback. I'll post results when I have more data. Cheers, Gary
Yes, as I mentioned in another thread, izahan's implementation looks great. Especially how chitika's images look like little thumbnails of the large images. I never could get conversions like izahan's even though I tried implementing similarly. This is likely due to my blog being mostly about products that arent out in the market yet. So I believe the images play a big part in displaying relevancy to the users.
You could try switching to 468x60 size and then centering it across the bottom of your post. I tried what you are doing now before and my conversions were not as good as it is now.
You mean my ad format at this moment? I am fiddling with the format right now hehe. The thing about 468x60 is since my products arent so relevant like yours, i can't make Deals tab default, otherwise there is no product description. But i must say the last few days running 468x60 isnt too bad. Nowhere near yours but decent.
I think the 468x60 format works well within posts because it's small enough to not be an 'in-your-face' ad but big enough to draw curious attention. Relevancy helps a lot but if you cannot get relevant ads by targetting your post titles, then you can try and fill up the target keywords with products that you think are relevant - then do the random keyword selection thing. The only reason why I am not doing this is because Blogger is a bit limited. Once I get my own domain though, this is high on my experimnets list
Currently i setup WordPress so i may add a custom field to every post with my target keywords. Works much better than simply using titles. But as I said, my blog talks a lot about products that are yet to be out in the market. So most ads are not the exact same product as the one the post's about. I try to target a previous model whenever possible. I think i'll stick to 468x60, but this time im trying out red links like yours.
Actually, I think orange links will work better for you as they blend with your post title color and overall theme - that's what I do. Good Luck!
Maybe Chitika heard my plea...468x60 ad format now shows price and store name on the Product tab. But unfortunately, the product name is no longer a link.
How about that? Even without the product being a link, I think it's probably better. Same deal in the 160x160 square, too.
ahh TOTALLY - the banner in the header will and should perform the best. Look how accurate the contextual links are to the content on the site moreover the interest of gamers as they are very much into that kind of stuff Well done and I wish you the best mate. my best, -Joey Dee
