there are a lot of free directories but I think directory submission will become more valuable if you can buy some popular submissions in quality directories. they can increase both your online brand and SERP results
Because of the way they are misused all over the Web, categories have grown to become something that we regard in a purely user-centric light. We think of them as navigational tools and guides for users, but in reality, categories are a powerful tool that bloggers can use to exercise precise control over content in a dynamic environment.
Good thread, this definitely doesn't get discussed enough. Is the best category the best for keyword rank in SEO, or should you go for the most popular categories for traffic? What has worked, but I don't know how much better I could be doing, is to pick the absolutely most specific category i can for the main link, and then go to more popular and widely submitted categories for supporting links. For supporting links, I mix popular with keyword/niche targeting, but haven't done enough split testing to really see any difference that shows popular categories have a greater benefit than keyword/niche categories, or vice versa. Figure it's time to test.
I agree with Audrey110. To choose Perfect category we can also use various tools but i think dmoz is the best.
It is my guess that you're asking this question from a (potential) directory owner's perspective, i.e. you're asking about what kind of category structure to have when creating a directory. Barring a few early replies, most others assume your question to be from a submitter's perspective. I think it'd make for a better, more meaningful discussion if you clarify this issue: Does your question relate to creation of category structure or to submission of a web site?
I'm sure glad you told us that. But what has it got to do with the specific issue being discussed on the thread?
off course correct category is very important. So you have to choose correct category for directory submission.
Choosing the right category really matters in directory submissions. So go in for the apt category that matches your site.
Well related category has great impact on gripping traffic, also it make easy the visitor to find the desired thing easily. I like this useful discussion.
