Best Buying Keywords?

Hello, I am running PPC campaigns to test conversions and click through rates on my home page.

I have say a product about body building, and I have tried combinations of broad match, phrase match, and exact match, with not much difference with the below types of keywords:

    general terms:
    bodybuilding
    body building
    body building workouts
    body building routines

    more specific terms:
    body building ebooks
    body building books
    body building system

I am not having very good conversions and I am wondering from other's experience what types of keywords ACTUALLY work well, and consistently across the board. Now, for PPC it is going to be different than SEO, because for PPC you can do broad matches and so fourth, whereas for SEO you have to optimize for one keyword.

So the question is, what buying keywords have worked for you and what types of keywords have not worked? Was this for a PPC campaign or to SEO your landing pages?

I am not getting any sales with PPC and yet I feel like my keywords are very good. Maybe they need to be a lot more specific!

    Exactly!

Your keywords are what I would consider very generic which means lots of traffic and low conversions. The more specific you get typically will result in less traffic but better conversion rates.
Looking at bodybuilding as you have in your example.

Body Building would be the extreme generic keyword and something like where can I buy an ebook about body building being the extreme specific. Now I doubt anyone will ever search that keyphrase.

Your job, every PPC's job, is to find keywords that are closer to that extreme specific but generic enough to still get traffic.

If it was as easy as picking the obvious keywords, everyone would be rich from PPC.

I am a heavy PPC guy and I spend very little time on landing pages, product choice, etc. I spend most of my time on keyword selection.

There are hundreds of different searches in each niche so without knowing the actual product it would be hard. The likes of Body Building book would be good for an ebook, Body building course for a training scheme or buy bodying building articles for someone looking for body building web content. As mentioned previously, your keywords are FAR too generic.

Yeah, you need to hit much more specific terms. Honestly, I would go buy keywords, and then broaden to expand your campaign. Example, kick off with "buy body building book" actually working with direct purchase keywords, then once you max potential volume, then broaden, and broaden to the point where you can't get returns anymore.
