I don't follow trends for the most part as they can dry up quickly. Long term the best business is the one where you have the most knowledge. You could tell me "Do it yourelf heart surgery" sites are the hot thing and where all the money is. But I wouldn't have the first clue so the chance of me making any money is minimal.

I have extensive knowledge of all my subject area of my sites so I believe thats the key to success. You have to love your product whether its an information site or actual physical goods.

I am sure that wasn't the answer you were looking for but if you are actually looking to start a business, I would go this route rather than try to predict what will be hot.

After being self-employed for 10 years I would still say
    1/ Consumables
    2/ Subscriptions

These can both be applied to the internet, so for long term stability and growth through a user base they both still have their merits.

If your looking for a crystal ball as to what internet/computer related services will explode well.. I cant find my crystal ball.

Stick to something you have knowledge of or a great passion to learn about. That's the key to long term success.

And not alot to say about the porn industary but its not slowing down at all :)

We don't need more adult sites, we need more ethical adult site owners :)

I'm sure there are some out there, but they don't make up the majority.

Excellent point! Probably why I have stuck to working in the travel industry - I'll never be a millionnaire but I love working in Travel. Online holidays have an exciting future, more people everyday are 'doing it alone' and booking their holiday online.
