Best article writing practices for building links

I want to build links for my web directory. writing articles and submitting to article directories. What are the best practices one should follow for such a process..

if i own a genera web directory, should i only submit articles related to directories only? or i can write a good article about, lets say electronics and sumbit it somewhere relevant, but then it wouldnt be related to my web directory. So would that be useful or not?

If you have a general directory you can still write and submit articles in different niches. Just link to your categories (deep links to internal pages are vital for SEO). Yes, Spinner chief is a great software for article spinning but if you post your article on ezine articles may be they will reject it.
