The rates of most of the writers mentioned in this thread (thus far) are $0.10+ per word. The best way to find out would be to PM the writer you're interested in and ask directly. Depends on the writer. Experts in their field, as Rebecca says, charge above 10 cents/word. In fact, I've seen some freelance veterans who charge as high as 50-75 cents. But if you're looking for REAL quality and not some hodge-podge of regurgitated Wikipedia content, the price is definitely well worth it.
