Best article structure for optimal SEO benefit

I'm making a new site that will be offering a collection of articles about products and techniques, as well as tutorials.

I've already started writing up my tutorials and they come to quite a size, with maybe 1,000 words in a single tutorial. I have a couple of concerns:

    1. The articles will be reasonably long, but may lack focus in terms of it's contextual clarity.
    2. Having such a long article bores readers.
    3. As readers scroll beyond the fold, they may not be exposed to adverts.

I think it would be better to split the article into sections across several pages. This would increase the number of pages for spiders, make the content easier to read and keep browsers above the fold where they will be more exposed to relevant ads.

In your experience, should I host the article on a single page or split it across several pages?

Split into several pages. Each page one "topic" or keyword phrase target

Great recommendation Mr. Thrifty.. If you do spread the article out into multiple pages don't forget to create a sub-menu for your article for easy navigation.

I also recommend using bulleted lists for easy reading and bolding important/key phrases or words
