Like for example if you find something that can be useful that doesn't exist, create it. For example, with all this SEO contest stuff going on, I noticed there was no site that covered all the contests. So I created one, and links are poping up all over the place. Even John who created the contest has linked to it a few times, and of course it's showing up in blogs and message boards. I just found a non-English message board where Jim_Westergren added a link to it!

It only took two days for the index page to be indexed in Google! Yesterday it was #323 for 'SEO Contests' out of 1,310,000 with one datacenter listing it at 294th place!! Yahoo already shows a few back-links, and of course MSN lists the site in 2nd place since it's in the domain!! When the massive contest starts, traffic'll probably explode while I do daily updates for four long months!! :D

No, it isn't that $1,000,000 idea, though I can't think of another site that I ever made that I enjoyed making so much! :D

Was this Alex Tew guy really the first person to come up with the pixel idea?
I'm sure I read somewhere (maybe on here) that he pixel selling idea was old, and had limited success in the past. Maybe I'm wrong? either way, the guy is very smart and hats off to him!

I think if one invested time in posting in a ton of high-traffic forums months before he wanted to advertise the site, it would pay off. Simply post some messages in the top 20-40 forums in the web, and make a decent contribution. Then introduce people to your site months later. Since peeps deem you already as a regular contributor, they'll pay attention and not look at it as spam.

I agree that press releases and articles are a great way to create initial BUZZ about the a new Million Pixel Home page. The word can spread fast, but I think now Million Pixel Home Pages have to improve from the original format. New Million Pixel Pages should have a real solid marketing plan to continue bringing in traffic long after the grid is full. I have noticed that alot of Million Pixel Home Pages have no plan long term making there 5 year or so advertising shelf life useless. And alot of them are adjusting, creating more options and plans to create new forms of Buzz for there Million Pixel Home Pages.
