Besides @digitalpoint, nobody really has racked up any best answers, and nobody ever will. Not the way things are set up. It's too hard to get them, not all the forums have this option and those that do well.......many members just don't bother giving them out. To my point, why not open it up a bit? Why put restrictions on some forums and not others? What is the criteria for whether a forum has it or not? Why not give this option to all the forums? I remember that Copywriting forum didn't have it, then when a demand was put forward copywriting forum then received this option, and it is now being used. So any chance that this will happen?
Not without a specific reason for why it should be allowed in a forum it's not already. Generally it's only enabled in areas where people are asking questions... places like Buy/Sell/Trade, it's not. And there are others that have received lots of best answers... this guy is getting close to 100 for example: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/members/deathshadow.81916/
What about General Chat? A very popular forum, this would give members a chance to get some *Best Answers*.
Yeah, no... people are rarely asking questions that would have a best answer there. You start making "best answers" rather pointless when the best answer to "What is your favorite color?" is "green".
What about in the Search Engine Optimization section? People ask questions/for help there, albeit it also gets some General Chat-level spam, too.
LOL I got a fluke 1 by happen chance stumbling in to a forum I didn't even know it was in. Not likely to get another this year nor next as only know SEO well enough to hang about and give decent answers after 10 years of 16 plus hours a day SEO study But who cares it's just another meaningless metric it seems, like the likes thing it's just a joke made up mostly from fun posting, not marketing or such related things in the main... That likely sounds awful but it's not meant to - where's that neg rep button for my neg comment itching the finger eh LOL ... No no shut it down we don't want that LOL
I know absolutely nothing about anything technical. When my pc or laptop has any issues a techie comes in and fixes it. I know only how to turn them on and off.....end of story. I am easily the most untechnical member on this whole site. Me an SEO? haaaaaa!
Why not? I saw in the SEO forum people are grateful for your help. Sure, it has no real meaning, but it's nice to know if your post has been helpful to the OP and that's useful for people who can't give likes yet either. Well, actually, really what's most important for SEO (as well as a crawlable site) is writing for your audience/potential audience (i.e. content they want), or making other stuff people want. Sadly, most people write for Googlebot/whaterver else SE bot. From a writing perspective, I imagine you would be very good, so could get a lot of "best answers".
I totally disagree with you. Say a newer member comes on to buy or to hire. He has three prospective members that he is thinking of doing business with. Two have low points one has high points. All three seem equally qualified. Which one do you suppose he will choose? I would choose the one with high points, because this would tell me that this member is held in a high regard by the members here. Points are a metric that some members might use to do business, so they are *not* irrelevant.
Good point, it could be a useful part of due diligence, as well as looking through the post history. I never thought about it that way. Would be good if you could click the number of best answers to see what they got them for (similar to the likes).
I was kidding Ryan But really it's like a democracy, do people really know a good answer when they would rather best answer what they want to hear? The Nazi party was a democracy and they we're wonderful with who they gave their voting power to eh! At the other end Robert Mugabi the same. I suppose but as I said I am not sure people can see when something they don't want to hear might be the best help. It's about the best answers there to but again are the measures right there do you think? I found that sadly the only way to beat those gaming the system is to fly very close to the edge sometimes in order to beat them. Partly as SE's and their spiders are quite stupid in many ways tbh. I really shouldn't post at near bedtime when tired LOL. Anyone know how to fix a dyslexic keyboard btw?
People know what the best answer is for themselves and that's point, isn't it? Now we're drifting into politics and religion, but the Nazi Party was anti-democracy and persecuted the democratic parties. But was does the Nazi Party - and this ^^^ - have to do with "best answer"? We come back to the fact the best answer is for the person who asked for the thread. It's subjective, but it's their thread, so they are free to set whatever is the best answer for them.
@Ryan_UK The Mugabi thing was to offer a balance, the same as the Nazi thing Ryan. They are both in their own way democracies (you say not democracies but I see them like the Roman republic as democracies in action though with a leader in each case leading the majority rule) where as long as one follows the party line and folks hear what they want to hear their vote is with what they want to hear. Extremes and probably not best representative of what I was trying to say though tbh. I could show you later this week how to get a best answer that is in fact not so by providing someone with what they want to hear if you like? - Though you will need to let me bide my time so I will be able to see if I can find an opportunity to show you what I mean. It shouldn't be too difficult though. RE the democracy thing > To me you see the Roman republic and the colloseum is democracy in acton.
I love helping others by answering their question. I'm not that smart so my answer maybe not that helpful. Most answer was given based of my experiences. I'm a bit shy to create thread and speak up my mind. This is what make me unable to understand on what forums/sub-forums 'Best Answer' are enabled? I have searched it in rules and by asking Google but unable to find the real answer. I encourage to create simple rule about 'Best answer' and describe it with simple explanation. How about this: <rule> "Best Answer. It is explained below: A feature which explain to the whole world if the best answer for question was given to specific post. Only Thread Starter able to pick the 'Best Answer' and it has to be a real answer for question. Abusing this feature would award you a 'Big Hammer on your Toe'. 'Best Answer' only available in these forum/sub-forums (list the forum or sub-forums here). Moderators could change any best Answer given by Thread Starter if the answer wasn't relevant. Any thread without 'Best Answer' would get one if moderator think it necessary and there is real answer for the question. Asking Thread Starter to give 'best answer' would award you 'Ban Hammer'. Asking moderator for 'Best Answer' would reward you 'vacation' for three months. If you keep bothering Moderator for the same thing, pack you clothes in your bag and be ready for long vacation. Hasta La Vista, Baby. No need to ask. Moderator already aware any threads that should have 'Best Answer'. Stupid/Weird questions are not eligible for 'Best Answer'. </rule> //end of rules Nine rules above seems clearly enough explaining about 'Best Answer'. However, it is not me to judge if it is necessary to create a section about 'Best Answer'. The owner must know better which one need to be created and what should not being added. I do support any member in this thread that suggest Shawn to enable more sub-forums for 'Best Answer'. These are my Opinions: Discuss about What sub-forum which should not have "Best Answer" by default. Any sub-forums which trigger huge spam should not have it as well. I do agree BST and 'Politic' should not have 'Best Answer'. I do believe only Moderators and Owner need to discuss about this. However, they may ask their Notable (or all) Members if they think we could help them with some opinions. Enabling Sub Forum with 'Best Answer feature' will reduce spam and make people think to write useful posts. It is not only good for Search Engine but also help anyone whom visiting DP through Search Result to get answer for their question. I do really love 'Best Answer' and would try to get it because it useful to measure my skills and Knowledge. It need good skills in communication to explain our opinion and great/broader knowledge to solve the problems. Who knows someday in future DP will be known for it's "Best Answer'. With good dedication and spirits, It is not a something impossible to achieve. "Yahoo Answer" and countless others, All of You should be really helpful for now on because DP would try to beat you at this time. (Don't take it personal. I didn't mean to underestimate the others) Phew, I'm a bit relaxed now after writing my opinions above.
Till now, I earn 0 best answers and I'm the only one in this thread who doesn't know feeling when you get a best answer.. But it's not important.. I only think that if there are ''best answer'' option it should be used more.. I mean, there are just couple of guys who got some nice number of best answers till other members don't have but deserve some.. I'm not taking me as an example (I'm not so experienced and I'm young) rather took Spoiltdiva or Revelations Decoder as an example of members who is really helping to others but only have few best answers..
The feeling in getting best answer? It just like the forum especially thread starter think you have been a good person whom willing to answer the questions. We already know many people may able to help answering questions but not so many people willing to write post telling them about it. When a member get 'likes', it feels like more people starting to like our posts/personality. When a someone award us with 'Best Answer', it just like we are willing to help and capable to solve the questions. Surely both of them were just statistic and 'eye candy' but I do believe we would be really proud to get it. You do think helping other make us smile, Am I right?
I think that thread starters are more willing to give a like or a best answer to a person who already gots ton of them.. You can see like this: If someone post a thread ''How to gain three likes'', and a guy with 3 posts and 0 likes and best answers post an interesting comment with an good explanation and same thing do, let's say Shawn, who will get a best answer?? Just to clear out, I'm not complaining on that, it is the way it is.. Likes and best answers aren't just a number, they show many more.. Lately, I gain a lot of likes, through being funny, interesting or helpful and now more people thinks that I am a member who can they trust..
