Thanks for the heads-up on that - if the product is that good it argues for an early purchase of the current edition. Note to others - the details are not on the home or pricing page, but in the forum: http://www.associate-o-matic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=647
$20 subcription fee: For the quality of the script, I think it's worth it. My AOM store has been racking in solid sales since I installed it. Of course it doesn't hurt that it's on an 11 year old domian with incoming .edu links
If you prefer perl to php, then a nice free script I used to use was by Mr Rat. It was one of the first ones out and I used this nearly 4 years ago when Amazon luanched their feed. Back then I made some changes to get search engine friendly url pages and got thousands of pages indexed in Google. But within a few months everyone and their dog caught onto this idea. Competition became much more intense, and Google done one of their updates and pages dropped out the serps in the blink of an eye. Then Amazon messed around with their already low comission and I ended up dropping the whole project within a year and moved into a less competitve market. If you are thinking of setting up a huge store selling the whole of Amazon, I can't help but think you have missed the boat on this one. However, if you have a site on a certain topic and wish to add a few complimentry products then it's probably worth a shot. I'm not sure how well the script is updated having not followed it for a long time now, but I just checked their forum and there are new posts in there so it still looks active. You can get the script here: http://www.mrrat.com/aws/
I second felix's suggestion. I am running it here: http://www.hypography.com/books/apf...ItemSearch&Keywords=science&SearchIndex=Books (The long query string is simply because it is an effective way to create a Science Bookstore out of the script). I have integrated the script easily into my overall site design. The script is free. I make about $80/month in commissions without any marketing of this script.
Yet another vote for AOM. I started out by setting up the free version, and within a few minutes after playing with the script, I had bought the paid version. Best $99 I've spent in a long time!
In the full version there is a section called "Currency Settings" Within you can set: Currency Rate This is the static currency conversion rate for the currency you want to convert to. If you were converting from USD to EUR and the current conversion rate was 0.853026 you would enter this value. Keep in mind this would only be an estimated conversion as the rates will frequently change. It needs to be manually maintained. Currency Symbol Prefix This is the symbol to use at the beginning of the converted currency value, if supplied and if currency rate above is set. Using the above USD/EUR example for a $15 item with a prefix of 'EUR ' would be displayed as: $15.00 (EUR 12.80) and Currency Symbol Suffix This is the symbol to use at the end of the converted currency value, if supplied and if currency rate above is set. Using the above USD/EUR example for a $15 item with a suffix of ' EUR' would be displayed as: $15.00 (12.80 EUR) It may be in the light or free versions too but I'm not running those so I can't be sure. Hope that helps!
Well, I used and finally purchased this little program http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ ... and it automatically generates a Google compliant sitemap based upon my amazon store's feed. I have the script running as a weekly cron job that indexes the first 500 pages of results -- it catalogues a small portion of my store. It would be ridiculous to have the sitemap program index the entirety of one's store. Because I have associate-o-matic keep the cache for an extended period of time, there are many images stored on my host that do not need to be pulled from Amazon's site as frequently. (The cache increases as the sitemap generator crawls through the store.) In addition, I have modified my .htaccess file to make use of a php accelerator, eaccelerator, to further increase speed. As of right now, I have 3 independant stores. 1. University Bookstore 2. Financial Education 3. West Texas Internet Mall
I run Associate-O-Matic on, www.bestautopartsonline.info Its a hosting bandwidth (and disk space) killer too.. (thank god for VPS) Whats funny, i make more from google ads than the amazon referals. lol
Have you taken a look at www.ecommerceforeveryone.com . You can get full amazon storefronts there. Some other people mentioned AOM as well. It seems to be a decent script as well. thanks, PuReWebDev
Can is not be used on your own hosting? or is it strictly with the hosting package that it comes with?
the last one mentioned looks nice, but req a monthly/annual fee and no easy signup for the product. interesting though.
I downloaded a free script from Magnik.com and just launched my first Amazon Affiliate site last night. I noticed that some of the pages are already indexed with Google so that's cool. The hardest thing for me was that it's written in CakePhP - something I'd never worked with before...and a redirect in the .htaccess so I am having trouble just getting an actual home page on there. For now, I just have a category showing up on the home page EasyShopForEverything.com and have edited the FAQ, About Us, etc. pages (btw: they all end in .ctp extensions). I would like to get a drop-down menu on there but am still trying to understand the site structure. I'm a newbie, I'm sure you all already know about how to use this script. If you have any suggestions - it would be greatly appreciated.
