    Hi Orol,

if you run your own affiliate program there are a lot of things to handle:

    - The tech side (handling affiliates, tracking, payments etc.)
    - Recruiting Affiliates (in forums, in social media groups, marketplaces, advertising etc.)
    - Many vendors run contests in the beginning and give away bonuses to motivate affiliates to take action now
    - Depending on your program, you may sign up for a marketplace like CJ, JVzoo, ClickBank or the other 1,000's of networks. They have all the tech and they have affiliates. Your job would be to get your program into their system. Call them, email them, ask them what they need.
    - And as always: Building relationships is key. Always ask yourself how you can help your affiliates. Make it easy for them.

Hope this helps!? Good luck with your program!

What can you advise in both cases? It is interesting to hear your opinion.

Affiliate program is basically a marketing job for some other company, on a commission basis.
So all the things which are useful for marketing, will be useful for you, like email list making, social networks, PPC, etc.
You can also post review articles, with affiliate link in signature.

If you're an affiliate, the first thing you need to do is get a job. You'll need money flowing in to pay the bills. The revenue from affiliate marketing won't be paying your bills anytime soon.
Most guys get carried away with the successes of a few affiliate marketers, making six figures. They think they can just come in, put up a few sites and start making six figures as well.

It never works that way. As an affiliate, you’ll have to go through a long learning process of at least one year. The days of easy money are long gone. Today, any upstart affiliate marketer has to deal with heavy competition, plus prospect-fatigue.

Most prospects are very defensive because just about every ‘sales letter’ these days is full of hype. The only way to make a sale these days is to reach a large number of people. This means ‘high traffic.’

The old formula of “content + traffic” still works; however, you need more traffic these days.

What is the most important element as an affiliate?

The very first thing as an affiliate is to choose a good product, which will not fold up. That means you need to evaluate not just the product but the vendor as well. You don’t want to sell the product of a fly-by-night vendor. The vendor needs to have been around for at least 2years. You need to figure out, if he intends to go long term or not.

YOU CANNOT MAKE MONEY WITH A VENDOR WHO FOLDS UP!

Imagine creating a site, putting up content; then, putting the affiliate link on it. Just as you move on to start building traffic, the vendor pulls down his product.

The vendor doesn’t really have to pull down his product from an affiliate management site like clickbank, jvzoo, paykickstart, etc. He just has to stop hosting his site. The site is not being hosted by clickbank, jvzoo or paykickstart. The site is being hosted by a website host like godaddy, hostgator, bluehost, etc.

So, in order for the site to be up and running, the vendor must pay his bills every month.

The point is, your success as an affiliate is built on the reliability of the vendor.

You don’t want you site to be full of dead links. Not only will this increase your bounce rate, but the visitors won’t be coming back ever.
