Hello, I was just curious what would be the best adsense ad types to display for CPM advertising? Is it better to display images ads, text adds, ??? Say I'm getting 5k page views a day and want to have cpm ads to monetize this traffic? Should I look for other programs besides adsense? What is your honest opinion?
I would find a way to implement both text and images if it does not disturb the overall layout of the site. You can set up channels in which you monitor your earnings based off of the ad type.
AdSense doesn't do CPM (as far as I'm aware) - they're pure CPC. That said, you can use passback tags on your CPM ads so that they never fall below a given floor value. For example, you could implement a CPM ad which has a defined minimum of $0.45 per mille: you're not likely to fill that slot on every pageview (unless you're in a really nice niche with expensive advertising) so you create a passback tag that inserts your AdSense code when the CPM falls below $0.45. That way you have CPM ads for as long as they pay well and AdSense when they don't. Sorted. CPM rates are very, very low by the way - unless you can get into one of the big networks (Burst, Casale and a couple of others). Most of the time you're looking at $0.10 per mille for 100% fill and rates that fall off pretty quick as you head towards $1.00 per mille (outside of the big players, that is - I'm not in them yet so I can't speak for their rates). For CPM ads, I've tried several networks (this list is copy/pasted from another thread where I said the same thing, though there's an extra one in this list): adBrite who run a weird CPC/CPM setup that's bearable but pays low - and limits you to 10 ad tags over your entire portfolio (counting deleted ones as well) unless you contact them and ask nicely for more CPMfun who never respond to emails, as far as I can see, have crappy stats but are really easy to set up (pure CPM) Lijit who have a crap control panel but nice stats (pure CPM) Komoona who have a lovely pure CPM setup with ad sales built in and are really responsive and friendly (and accept almost anything non-porn and legal, which is awesome if you're in adult-oriented content where most of the others turn their nose up at you) JuicyAds - the best I've seen for adult content, though you can use them on non-adult too, complete with built-in ad sales and a VERY active marketplace of buyers (CPC for filler ads, rates based on CPM/CPC for bought ads) Bidvertiser - just started using this one and they seem to have a CPC/CPM setup rather like adBrite. I've just been going through all my sites and changing things around a bit this week. On very low traffic sites I've put in adBrite or Clicksor (if I really had to) just to monetise the few hits they get; on mid-range I use Komoona with a passback to either a CPC or CPA (Clickbank, affiliate and stuff); on the high end I use Juicy (since my high end is adult content) on a self-hosted rotator with CPA. (Incidentally, if you're looking for adult affiliate stuff, let me know. I have a few URLs.) Frankly, on 5k hits a day you're looking at $1 from CPM if you're really lucky. If you're on a standard low-end site (like mine!) you'll be lucky to make $0.50 from that. YMMV, depending on your niche, of course. Hope it helps!
