I am looking for a good accounting package for managing my web ventures.

I am looking for an online solution so I can make entries when on the road.

I could use Quickbooks, but would prefer to use something more web oriented.

    What do you use?

QuickBooks does have an online version. Check it out at http://oe.quickbooks.com. Good luck

Microsoft has a new free version of their accounting software: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/oct06/10-29AccountingExpress07PR.mspx

It can be enabled for remote access, but that probably has a fee.

This looks like a pretty deep accounting package. I installed it and looked it over, but it was way more than I wanted to get into. If you have quickbooks already set up, import it and give it a whirl.

    I'd go with Quickbooks.

Are there actually accounting packages geared toward web ventures?

Something like that. Keep track of hosting fees, for each site, writers' fees, advertising costs, development costs, and income from various sources for each site, etc.

I never thought about that but it could really come in handy. How do people with hundreds of sites keep up with all the facts and figures?

I use quickbooks, it was really easy to learn how to use, and it kept track of all my expenses and income, you can easily run different reports.

What about Google Spreadsheets? I currently do my accounting in excel, but I have a laptop I take everywhere.

Excel can work pretty well. There were times we used it instead of actual accounting software like Peachtree.

Just make some ledgers, statement forms, etc. and fill them in. Nice, simple, and cheap.
