I can tell you as a SitePoint Community Advisor (read: moderator) that "our" signature links are not visible to anyone who is not registered as a member and logged in. This includes search engine spiders.

In other words, SitePoint is proudly once again "no show".

    SitePoint is "NO SHOW"

Seriously - if you're not logged in, you cannot see your signature there. (And neither can the search engines.)

Dan is true, sitepoint is not for building links, it is as like as webmasterworld.com. If you need help and quality advise then visit these forums.

None, why would you wanna post your links on your forum sigs, so whoever hates you can easily click bomb your site? :p Look at all the complaints about being banned from Adsense due to fraudulent clicks, they've all somehow advertised their sites in forums and the case is there's always some *random* dude from *this* country clicking their ads nonstop.

That's the kind of traffic you'd expect to get from Webmaster forums, so eff all the doFollow juice and all that jazz, it's not even worth it. Only the most desperate would put their sites at risk. (Unless of course, your sites don't use Adsense)

For your signature? Personally, i'd find a poker forum, or rather the top 5 poker forums. DP will help, but a poker forum will help a hell of a lot more!

Are are you planning on a webby related siggy in the nearish future?

The poker forums will help drive targeted traffic, but not his rankings (unless he gets links on the main sites - then he'll be in for quite the joy ride!).

PR? what good is PR other then for selling links?

SERP? What good is SERP other then for traffic.... which leads me back to why poker sites would be better for a poker sig.

Its direct marketing vs. indirect marketing, and in the end, I'm willing to bet that direct is better.

Hey, be nice Dan. I don't put all SEO-types in the same bucket, and my experience leads me to believe that there is a much greater percentage of charlatans and scoundrels among people who claim to be SEO "experts" than there are in the legal profession.

Looks like I forgot to add "some" to the lawyer thing. Not all lawyers are bad -- my experiences with them so far have been very pleasant. Especially the ones at the Law Offices of Edelman, Combs, Latturner and Goodwin, LLC. (They're a consumer protection law practice in Chicago - they eat collection agencies who think they're above the law for lunch.)
