what are the options for turning a flat logo into a 3d model for use in videos, ie the logo willl be animated to rotate bounce etc.

anyone have experaince of using photoshop 3d tools and importing into after effects?

what about Blender or 3d studio max? can those files be imported into After effects and animated in 3d?

    thanks!

I am not much of a 3d shark, but I'd recommend Maya 3d. I've been working a bit with it on studies and found it quite easy to get started. There's a lot of tutorials out there explaining it very good.

Maya for the really hardcore stuff and 3DS max if you are just getting into the 3d stuff.

I'm just curious. Why you think Maya is better software than 3ds max for creating advanced stuff?

I just found that it felt a lot more complex where 3ds felt a lot more new-user friendly when I use to do graphics in school. Im not a patient person lol. But thats just my personal preference when looking at the more advances graphics.

Oh okay, thought there was something specific. But guess that is just your user experiences.

For me i preferred to use both Softwares Maya Graphics and Autocad 2011 for building Autocad Graphics 3D interfaces.

If you want to start from the beginning then I would recommend blender as it is less complex and not to mention FREE!! I found this on youtube aswell (urm cant post links but if you search for "3d model blender tutorial" then you will find many good starter tuts.

Maya is the leader in 3D graphics design and manipulating. Maya can be integrated with After Effects.

I would also suggest 3dsmax, although if you want to make simple 3d logo effects you can always fake it in 2d

If you're new to 3D design, I recommend either Blender (which is free), or Cinema 4D (not free). Both are extremely good, very capable, and easy to use. If you plan on doing some heavy duty 3D modelling & animating, and you're thinking about making some decent money out of it, then Maya or 3DS Max would be the best bet.

I use Cinema 4D and it really is incredible.

Second to Cinema 4d. The interface is more friendly than 3dsmax, and possibilities regarding abstract effects are endless!
