    IMO, the best three methods are:-
    1-Search Engine
    2-PPC marketing
    3-Profiled data / Profiled email marketing/newsletter.

    2 - Search Engines.
    3- Advertisements (adwords,ypn , msn adcenter etc)

    1. PPC -> Fastest results, expensive

    2. Forum Signature -> Good targeted traffic, moderate result. Quite expensive

    3. SEO -> Moderate targeted traffic, FREE :)

    PPC's -short term.
    Forum signatures and search engines are good ways.

    Sites like Digg can also get you traffic if your post is good enough to make it to the home page. So, at the end, with the initial spadework with the methods mentioned above, good quality content makes the first time visitor a return visitor, and ensures steady traffic
