benifit of registered users?

My site is a computer/programming scripting site and was wondering if there is a benifit to having registered users. I get a few users registering from time to time for some reason? They must be expecting something but I don't know what to offer them. My site is pretty much a free resource site. Any advise?

I'd have to say, if you want registered users, then offer them some exclusive resources that you don't to your visitors, that would give your visitors motivation to become a member. However, if you don't truly want or need members, then don't even offer a membership sign up.

as Jump said, maybe the registered users get access to the latest scripts before guests? The good thing about having registered users is that it gives you a database to advertise to (thats what most use it for)
