What are the benefits of making people verify their emails? It might make people annoyed, i know it does to me when i register somewhere. Does it help me at all?

 

The benefit is that you know all the emails of members are valid and you can contact them through those emails.

People getting annoyed is unlikely, since 99% of forums have email verification, including almost all the biggest forums.

 

registration without email verification is an open invitation
to forum spammers. thats why its always best to enable that feature.

 

If there was no email verification, I might have got registered with a fake email address

 

Email validation is annoying but sometimes needed. Although the services that offer 10 minute email accounts would be a problem.

 

Also if you don't verify email then most people who use subscriptions or PM notifications will just get bounced emails back to your server. That's a waste of resources.
