"people bookmark resources that they find useful, resources that are of more use are bookmarked by more users. Thus, such a system will "rank" a resource based on its perceived utility. This is arguably a more useful metric for end users than other systems which rank resources based on the number of external links pointing to it".

    TRAFFIC
If you dont have anything interesting, don't bother to submit it to Stumble or Digg.. But if you have something unique and interesting/cool, it can generate lots of traffic..

    • I've had "Stumble storms" of 3,000 - 5,000 visitors per day.
    • Over a year ago my site was on the font-page of Digg.. It delivered nearly 100,000 visitors in about a week.. Still, over one year later, that Digg story still sends 500 - 700 visitors per day.

The traffic is hard to convert into sales on most sites.

I forgot to mention: If you do well on Digg, you'll get a LOT of backlinks from other sites, with is more valuable in the long run than than the initial traffic it brings.

..and yes.. Stumble and Digg traffic is very hard to convert for sales or even PPC earnings..

    That is simply not true.

The Social Sites are each taking on their own kind of user...the trick is to match your niche with the appropriate sites.
