Benefits of renewing for longer?

    Hi.

I am wondering if there are any good benefits of renewing for more than a year at time. I have just renewed robertall.com from 3rd april 2008 to 2009. I was planning to renew until 2010, but i changed my mind last second.

    Any good advantages?

It's good register a name for as many years as you want if that is a project that you are planning to carry on throughout the time.

Might be also good when you find a renewal/registration discount for a number of years because, after all, time passes by so quick.

Well, if it is a keeper then there is no harm registering for a long term. It just prevents moments which you may suddenly 'forget' to renew and that can lead to issues.

    - Can help if you are going to forget to renew it on the time.
    - Can help if there is a discount on registering for multiple years.
    - And can also help if you haven't forgot and just don't want to mess around again after one year to renew it for one more. :)

I know that godaddy offers a 20% discount if you register a domain for ten years at a time. That could be helpfull unless the price of domains go down in ten years.

None IMO. I would rather buy more 10 name @ 1 year rego, then register 1 name for 10 years! Waste of money IMO.

It is actually not a waste if you intend to keep the names. Of course if you trade then that is another matter altogether. IMHO.

There are some people who buys one or a few domain names and just work on them and that's all they would do. In that case, it is beneficial for them to register long term.

With 10 domains, you probably find the prospect of paying for those 10 domains over the next several years if you keep time. With just one domain which you prepay for 10 years, you only need to worry about paying 10 years from now 1x.
